LOCK+LOAD is a stand-alone product for shorter walls and is used as an attractive permanent facing for other retaining walls, such as MSE walls. It is the lightest concrete wall fascia available. Providing the flexibility of wire faced walls with the durability of concrete. We have developed an inexpensive method for casting 100 lb concrete components and this production capacity makes it possible to introduce this light weight, attractive, performance tested system to the market place with confidence.
LOCK+LOAD has taken the stabilizing function of a cantilever and modularized it. This modular cantilever is unique, patented, and provides numerous design and construction advantages that LOCK+LOAD uses to provide an optimum facing for any retaining wall structure.
LOCK+LOAD, unlike most retaining wall facings does not stack concrete to concrete; instead LOCK+LOAD is set on the compacted fill of the modules below. This allows for consolidation during construction and prevents stress on the fascia.
ALL OTHER modular concrete faced retaining walls are required to attached periodically to the soil reinforcement. Each LOCK+LOAD module is individually anchored into to the soil mass… the panel is attached to the counterfort by a “stainless steel connecting Loop” and the counterfort is anchored to the reinforced soil mass by soil friction in much the same manner as geogrid wrap walls. LOCK+LOAD has completed extensive testing of this connection mechanism and millions of square feet of wall are currently faced with LOCK+LOAD.
LOCK+LOAD is similar to GEOGRID WRAP walls since the wall is built of compacted soil layers but the wrap that makes the face is attractive durable concrete. This patented technology allows: full compaction at the wall face, consolidation within the reinforced zone, and provides a low stress environment for the concrete elements.
The modular cantilever makes LOCK+LOAD superior to other wall fascias in that it provides the stability that allows the specified compaction all the way to the face of the retaining structure. E.G. fences, railings, barriers etc. can be located at the wall face, not 3 ft. behind.
LOCK+LOAD modules provide Architects unsurpassed design flexibility as there is virtually no geometry that can not be accommodated. LOCK+LOAD’s thin face section allows building on grade, going over vertical curves, making inside and outside radii and transitioning around obstructions. Also, LOCK+LOAD walls can be erected as single or multiple tiers, at any desired face batter, and transition between geometries with ease.
LOCK+LOAD also provides the design architect a multitude of texture options including the new vertical geometry planter wall.
MSE Retaining Wall
To date MSE walls are the walls most usually faced with LOCK+LOAD modules. MSE Walls may use geogrid, metal mats, or geotextile as the soil reinforcement. Crushed rock is compacted in the counterfort zone and drainage placed at the rear of the soil reinforcement to insure a drained condition within the MSE zone.
Millions of square feet of LOCK+LOAD faced MSE walls have been built and placed into service in the last fifteen years.
Gravity Retaining Wall
LOCK+LOAD modules may be used as stand alone units to build gravity walls up to a height of four to five feet depending on wall geometry and soil conditions.
For taller gravity walls a fill zone of approximately one third of the wall height is backfilled, a row at a time, with “No Fines” concrete; a lean mix of cement and 3/4” crushed rock that maintains its permeability while providing the necessary strength to insure a stable retaining structure.
GRS Mass Retaining Wall
This type of wall is typically used in situations where very high loading is expected and is similar to geogrid / geotextile reinforced MSE walls except that soil reinforcement layers are placed at more frequent intervals (8” or less) to create an extremely strong monolithic block of reinforced fill.
Again LOCK+LOAD provides an ideal facing that is easily integrated into the GRS mass.
Soil Nail / Anchor Wall
When LOCK+LOAD is used as a fascia for soil nail walls it is used in conjunction with approximately 4 ft. lengths of wire matt soil reinforcement spaced at 32 ‘’ intervals and that are attached to the wall facing mat by way of wire coils.
Using soil nail top down construction faced with LOCK+LOAD instead of the more typical shot- crete allows the construction of tall walls in zones where little or or excavation is possible.
H-Pile & Lagging Wall
Many projects use H-Pile & lagging as shoring during construction that needs to be faced at the end of the project.
LOCK+LOAD can easily be attached to the H-Pile using a “Nelson Stud” and horizontal reinforcing steel cast into a grade beam on top of alternate rows of LOCK+LOAD modules as depicted in the adjacent sketch.
LOCK+LOAD recently introduced the plantable panel that can be erected with any desired face batter, from vertical to terraced.
This wall configuration is ideal in architecturally sensitive locations where a softer look is desired. Once the vegetation is established the retaining structure can blend into its surroundings to make a truly unobtrusive wall.
LOCK+LOAD panel faces may also be plain flat surfaced gray concrete that is sometimes required for the application of certain “Anti-Graffiti” surface treatments.
The standard LOCK+LOAD wall fascia is constructed from the chiseled limestone face cast by the standard LOCK+LOAD moulds. Now with addition of the plantable fascia LOCK+LOAD offers an truly green solution for earth retention needs in environmentally sensitive areas.
